Silent Meditation Retreat with Michael Stone

August 22, 2016 - August 29, 2016

Join us for an 8 day silent meditation retreat on Salt Spring Island. Silent retreats provide an opportunity to drop deep into silence, mature your meditation practice, and touch your awakened nature.

This retreat integrates the techniques of Vipassana with the schedule and basic forms of Zen. It is organized to give new students plenty of support in establishing a meditation practice. Experienced meditators will learn how to drop into deeper levels of practice. Silent retreats are where most students experience breakthroughs in their practice.

Each day, Suniti Dernovsek will be teaching movement classes that aim to embody meditative awareness for students of all levels.

Meals are vegetarian, there will be afternoon dharma talks and opportunities for one-on-one meetings with Michael. Limited to 35 students.

As we strive to be an open and inclusive community, accepting and supporting diversity in age, race, physical and mental abilities, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity* we welcome requests regarding accommodation.

For more information go here.

*Our sangha is inclusive of trans and gender nonconforming people. We recognize that gender is not dependent on how someone looks and can be something other than male or female. One’s gender is often inferred by the pronoun used as reference (he/she/they). We encourage mindfulness around pronouns.

Somatic Meditation: The Journey Home with Neil McKinlay

June 08, 2017 - June 15, 2017

Meditation is a coming home. Through the simple practice of being in one’s body, developing a sense of familiarity with and fidelity to immediate experience, we reconnect with the life we are living and the person we are. Under the guidance of Senior Teacher Neil McKinlay, this week-long retreat will explore the foundational methods of somatic meditation offered by the Dharma Ocean lineage. We will find our way through the confusion and distraction that so characterize our everyday lives. We will come into contact with the openness and knowing that are our true nature. We will come home.

Neil McKinlay is a teacher, coach, and writer. A close student of Reggie Ray, Neil draws from his training in the tradition of Chogyam Trungpa to emphasize the accessibility and relevance of meditation in the modern world. Seeing the spiritual journey as an inherent part of the human journey, his teaching style is immediate and personal, always affirming the dignity and wholeness of our lives as they are.

Gentle Somatic Yoga with James Knight

May 24, 2017 - May 31, 2017

Restorative 8-day retreat with James Knight, creator of Gentle Somatic Yoga

This transformational retreat on the beautiful grounds of Stowel Lake Farm is a unique opportunity to become a 32-hour Gentle Somatic Yoga Certified Level 1 Practitioner.

Gentle Somatic Yoga (GSY) is an exploration of movement that is revolutionary in its ability to improve health, wellbeing, quality of life, and personal performance.

Gentle Somatic Yoga incorporates slow, mindful movements that raise bodily awareness to heal persistent tension-based patterns in the body.

The corrective exercises, called Somatic Movement Flows, are ideal for overcoming bodily pain and dramatically increasing flexibility through the healing power of brain to muscle awareness and re-education.

GSY has helped diminish, correct, and/or eliminate symptoms from chronic lower back pain; stiff neck and shoulders; hamstring tightness; poor posture; and joint pain.

This 32-hour Gentle Somatic Yoga® Level 1 Practitioner Certification program is designed for yoga teachers, bodyworkers, health care professionals, therapists, and dedicated yoga students who would like to advance their own healing process. Upon successful completion of the program you will be able to incorporate 20 Somatic Movement Flows® into group or individual practices. The 32 hours from the  Level 1 Practitioner Certification may be applied to the 80-hour Level 2 Instructor Certification.

All ages and abilities are welcome to join the workshop.

Cost includes 8 days, 7 nights, 3 organic meals a day, tuition, James Knight’s 144-page workbook “Gentle Somatic Yoga Through Somatic Exploration”, and transportation from the ferry to Stowel Lake Farm.

GSY has been synthesized by Integrative Therapist and Yoga Teacher James Knight,     E-RYT, CHSE. This progressive method is the synergy of mindful movements and meditation.  It is inspired by the work of Eleanor Criswell, Thomas Hanna, and Moshe Feldenkrais. James lives and works in San Diego, California, USA.
