Summer Vipassana Retreat with Heather Martin & Kamala Masters

August 18, 2017 - August 25, 2017

Vipassana retreats are spent in silent meditation practice, with alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation. Offered each day are instructions; either individual or small group discussions with the teacher, and a dharma talk. The combination of silence, support and assistance, provides an extremely beneficial environment for developing meditation practice.

The momentum of hours of quiet, without distractions or responsibilities, allows the heart to release its guard and access levels of peace and tenderness not usually accessible to us. As the busy mind calms down, it settles and becomes clearer and brighter, revealing glimpses into the simple yet deep truths of all nature, and our own hearts. When experienced for ourselves these insights are transformative and liberating.

Daily period of yoga.

This retreat is suitable for both experienced and beginning meditators. More information here or email ssinsightmeditation@gmail.com

Coming Home to an Animate World: A Way of Ceremony and Conversation with Geneen Marie Haugen, PhD. & Bill Plotkin, Ph.D.

July 26, 2017 - July 30, 2017

An Underworld-Focused Immersion – Application Required

This is one of our most exhilarating and imagination-expanding intensives, and it’s foundational to all the work we do at Animas. Think of this intensive as a green doorway, an opening to a wilder consciousness shaped by forest and owls, clouds, cliff and dreams — a passage from a lifeless universe to a cosmos breathing with mystery and invitation, singing and crying in a jillion tongues. Come gather with other Earth lovers, forest whisperers, and visionary coyotes to honor the others with ceremony and conversation.

Entering the Heart with Igor Kufayev

June 20, 2017 - July 04, 2017

No matter how clear is the grasp of Ultimate Reality on the intellectual level, it is still a concept. It is for that reason Perennial traditions speak of merging into the Heart, for it reconciles the seer (subject) and the seen (object) into Oneness – as natural a state as Being itself.

Beatific or terrifying, all experiences rise from and merge into that sphere where perception is in the molten state of pure potentiality. Our perception is at its utmost refinement when the creative tension between our awareness and pure potentiality is in perfect alignment. That alignment is represented by union of Stillness and Movement, and spontaneously takes place in the Spiritual Heart.

The heart region is associated with many functions, and often serves as a metaphor for feeling, emotion and intuition. However, the Spiritual Heart, is not the physical heart, nor is it the Anahata chakra, the energetic wheel, but the abode of Consciousness Itself.

Entering the Heart – as most explicitly spoken in the traditions of Sufism and Tantra – is paramount to direct realization of one’s essential nature, for it allows Seeing through the Heart. Here perception reaches its spiritual maturity, undisturbed by fluctuations of the faculties, and refined to the point of Oneness.

The Heart is the seat of Vital Force contained in perfect equilibrium; direct apprehension of the Supreme Essence is fully cognized here. From here it emanates as Universal Love, and finds its expression on all planes. The Heart is the eye of Non-dual Awareness which beholds all creation with an equal vision. From here all perceptions ebb and flow as waves on the sea of infinity.

Somatic Meditation: The Journey Home with Neil McKinlay

June 08, 2017 - June 15, 2017

Meditation is a coming home. Through the simple practice of being in one’s body, developing a sense of familiarity with and fidelity to immediate experience, we reconnect with the life we are living and the person we are. Under the guidance of Senior Teacher Neil McKinlay, this week-long retreat will explore the foundational methods of somatic meditation offered by the Dharma Ocean lineage. We will find our way through the confusion and distraction that so characterize our everyday lives. We will come into contact with the openness and knowing that are our true nature. We will come home.

Neil McKinlay is a teacher, coach, and writer. A close student of Reggie Ray, Neil draws from his training in the tradition of Chogyam Trungpa to emphasize the accessibility and relevance of meditation in the modern world. Seeing the spiritual journey as an inherent part of the human journey, his teaching style is immediate and personal, always affirming the dignity and wholeness of our lives as they are.

Experienced Practitioner Vipassana Retreat with Heather Martin & Steve Armstrong

March 09, 2017 - March 19, 2017

This special retreat is offered for those with some experience in practicing meditation.  The minimum requirement is that you will have sat 4 week-long residential retreats in this tradition.  Your practice should be established, and relatively self-supporting.  The schedule is more flexible than on most retreats, allowing for self-direction over lengths of practice periods of sitting and walking.  There will be less basic instruction, while there will be the exploration of more nuanced and in-depth exploration of some aspects of these profoundly liberating teachings.  Due to the maturity of the practitioners, this retreat is usually very settled, intimate and a great opportunity for developing concentration (Samadhi) as well as insight (Vipassana). The particular theme of this retreat will be outlined at a later date.
