Advanced Anatomy, Movement Therapies & IASTM Retreat with Dr. Robyn Land, Dr. Nikita Vizniak & Andrew Dow

October 25, 2018 - October 28, 2018

ProHealth Yoga Teacher Training

Self-care for yourself and your patients! Join Dr. Robyn Land, Dr. Nikita Vizniak and Andrew Dow for this all-inclusive, educational and inspiring weekend retreat.
Deepen your knowledge and your practice! This three-night retreat is for registered massage therapists, yoga teachers and anyone else with a keen interest in movement therapies. With days filled with yoga, continuing education lectures and delicious meals, your time with us on Saltspring will inspire, rejuvenate and restore your body, mind and spirit!

The retreat program focuses on anatomy, kinesiology and bio-mechanical components. Our evidence-based approach combines these topics with tissue-specific identification and injury-based pose modifications. We will review muscles, joints and fascia, reinforcing how compensation in one region causes imbalance in other regions. We will identify prime movers, synergists and antagonists though movement therapies. You will learn to incorporate reciprocal inhibition and relaxation techniques to create greater healing potential in your patients or students.

The primary focus is to identify common musculoskeletal imbalances, ways to correct them and the orthopedic skills needed to support correct clinical treatment. We teach you to apply these to functional movements , poses and in clinical practice.

By integrating professional handouts and resources that you can use with clients and students, hands-on learning, and lots of laughter, this course will be a wonderful balance between education, fun and relaxation.

As we step out of the mind and into the body, we will spend lots of time on our yoga mats linking knowledge and movement into an uplifting, transformative 3-day getaway.

Your Retreat Includes:

  • Advanced Anatomy, Movement Therapy and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage (IASTM) workshops accredited for 14PE CEC hours RMTs
  • All of your meals from Thursday night dinner through to Sunday afternoon’s lunch, harvested freshly from Stowell Lake Farm’s gardens

Harvest the Spirit with Unityyoga

September 13, 2018 - September 16, 2018

One of the greatest challenges of modern day living is to live harmoniously with nature and the changing seasons. Autumn is a time to harvest the bounty we grew in summer, to store and prepare for the winter ahead, and is associated with the metal element, signifying contraction and introspection, as opposed to the upwards and outwards movement of the fiery summer. It is a time to reflect, to receive what is of essential worth, and to let go of what is not useful to us. Retreat to the serene natural environment of Stowel Lake Farm on Salt Spring Island and take harvest of your fullest intentions and manifestations of the year.

Threshold – A 5Rhythms Retreat with Bettina Rothe & Joanne Winstanley

August 30, 2018 - September 02, 2018

A threshold is a place of potential: a delineation between one set of conditions and another.  A cusp, or an edge that we may not have approached before now. A place to gather resources before stepping beyond what we already know.

As we move through time, each moment or season may require something different from us. Over the course of a human life – even when we are resting in a time of stability – life is poised to offer surprises.  And as citizens of a changing world, we may find ourselves being called to ‘step up,’ change course, learn new skills and perspectives, or take creative action that we haven’t taken before now.

In this year’s retreat we’ll use the 5Rhythms® embodiment practice, meditation, and ritual to investigate this place of potential. We’ll explore where we may be ready to step beyond our own edges and we’ll practice moving from awareness into action. Supported by the land and accompanied by a committed group of dancers, we’ll take time to gather the resources we need to step fully into the fall.

The 5Rhythms®  are an exhilarating and liberating approach to the exploration of improvised movement that is authentic, inspired and catalytic. It is a workout for body and soul, a moving meditation, a spiritual practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body, regardless of age, experience or condition.

We invite you to join us for this exploration and time to rejuvenate.

Previous 5Rhythms® experience is recommended, but not required.
If you are collecting hours for the 5Rhythms® teacher path, this retreat counts for
1 day of Heartbeat and 2.5 days of Waves practice.

Fiddlecamp with Zavallennahh Huscroft

August 20, 2018 - August 24, 2018

The Annual Fiddleworks camps are for all ages, and are a lot more than just fiddle!  All abilities from first time to advanced players are warmly invited to choose classes in a large variety of instruments (fiddle, viola, cello, guitar, double bass, voice, accordion, banjo, piano, percussion, art, dance, storytelling, and more). Registrations begin on March 1 for Fiddleworks Salt Spring Island.

Camp kicks off with an Instructors Showcase Concert, a truly inspiring way to start off the week and meet your camp mentors. Each day of camp has a planned schedule of classes and events with plenty of time to rest, eat and revel in the beautiful community spirit of Fiddleworks camps.

Our camps wouldn’t be the same without our instructors. Each year we invite world-class musicians and ensembles to form the Fiddleworks instructor team. Past instructors have included Daniel Lapp, Jayme Stone, Marc Atkinson, Gordon Stobbe, Mark Sullivan, Erynn Marshall and many more. From music making basics to fine tuning technique and style, they cater to all levels and abilities.

Other evening events, which the public are invited to attend, include community dances and the Student Gala Celebration on the last night of camp.

All participants are encouraged to volunteer and give back to the camp community, performing random acts of kindness, helpfulness, and goodwill.  We also share our music with the unsuspecting public through Random Acts of Violins (come to camp to find out more!)

We offer onsite accommodation options and meals. All classes, accommodations and meals are prepaid, but you can save your pocket change for ‘The Snack Shack’ which offers healthy, scrumptious tidbits to keep all our campers happy and fuelled for fiddling.

Fiddleworks camps also offer Instructor CD’s, books, t-shirts etc in “The Merch Zone”.  We also have our own resident Luthier, the lovely Laura Wallace, who is onsite all week to fix instruments, repair bows, and sell you strings, rosin, instruments etc.

Somatic Meditation: The Journey Home with Neil McKinlay

June 07, 2018 - June 14, 2018

Meditation is a coming home. Through the simple practice of being in one’s body, developing a sense of familiarity with and fidelity to immediate experience, we reconnect with the life we are living and the person we are. Under the guidance of Senior Teacher Neil McKinlay, this week-long retreat will explore the foundational methods of somatic meditation offered by the Dharma Ocean lineage. We will find our way through the confusion and distraction that so characterize our everyday lives. We will come into contact with the openness and knowing that are our true nature. We will come home.

Neil McKinlay is a teacher, coach, and writer. A close student of Reggie Ray, Neil draws from his training in the tradition of Chogyam Trungpa to emphasize the accessibility and relevance of meditation in the modern world. Seeing the spiritual journey as an inherent part of the human journey, his teaching style is immediate and personal, always affirming the dignity and wholeness of our lives as they are.

Living In Radiance with Hailey O'Hara & Angela McFaul

May 03, 2018 - May 06, 2018

From Hailey: My interest lies in sharing the potency of traditional teachings in a way that is relevant and accessible, for the sake of enhancing our human experience.

I was instantly drawn, nearly a decade ago, to the Sattva Yoga practice – the merging of Hatha and Raja yoga – the intelligent unravelling of the holding patterns in the body and mind.  I’ve followed this thread deeper through dedicated personal practice, passionate inquiry, quiet contemplation and a complete surrender to the flow of life. It is with great joy and deep gratitude, that I share these teachings.

What is included:

  • Three nights in your choice of accommodation.

  • Local, organic, freshly prepared daily meals.

  • Morning Sattva yoga practice, afternoon restorative yoga practice + evening meditation.

The building is so beautiful – it’s warm and bright and was hand crafted by local woodworkers. Not to mention it’s stocked with bolsters so we can really sink into our restorative poses. Experienced Practitioner’s Retreat with Heather Martin

March 16, 2018 - March 24, 2018

This special retreat is offered for those with some experience in practicing meditation.  The minimum requirement is that you will have sat 4 week-long residential retreats in this tradition.  Your practice should be established, and relatively self-supporting.  The schedule is more flexible than on most retreats, allowing for self-direction over lengths of practice periods of sitting and walking.  There will be less basic instruction, while there will be the exploration of more nuanced and in-depth exploration of some aspects of these profoundly liberating teachings.  Due to the maturity of the practitioners, this retreat is usually very settled, intimate and a great opportunity for developing concentration (Samadhi) as well as insight (Vipassana). The particular theme of this retreat will be outlined at a later date.

This year the retreat will be smaller than usual – just 25 people will be attending with one teacher.  Early registration is therefore encouraged. For Registration go here.
